Renton Arts & Culture Plan Open House Feedback

Please respond to the prompts in the Draft PDF below to help us craft an implementable and action oriented plan

The document below includes an initial draft of the vision, goals and actions proposed for the Arts & Culture Masterplan for community feedback. This document was presented during the Community Open House on November 8th, 2023 and seperately to our Steering Committee and the Renton Arts Commission.

In future versions of the plan, each of the actions will be expanded upon to include implementation steps including when the action should be completed, how and by whom. As members of the Renton Arts & Culture Community, we want to draw on your knowledge and expertise to make sure that this plan is focusing on actions that efficiently and strategically yield positive outcomes for Arts & Culture. Your comments on the document below will help us to focus and hone the actions and fill any gaps that may still exist.

Section 5. These are all terrific ideas, but the City needs to give support through higher funding. More funds from the entertainment tax should be designated.

I think the City should elevate the dollars it spends on the arts to match Kent and Bellevue.

Creating a full-time City employee dedicated to the Master Plan implementation is essential, and could be funded with funds from DOORS OPEN revenue.

I really appreciate all the work that went into the research behind this document and the presentation. Would there be an executive summary available? If not, I'd like to suggest that one be written. There are a lot of nuances here and it is a bit overwhelming for me to navigate and process information. Thanks! I hope for all the best with this important effort! Andrea

Example: There is an existing mural program, but it would be helpful for the program to have a single point person to coordinate between building owners who are interested in activating their facades, artists and the Arts Commission who approve murals.

Example: Creating a full time employee would provide a designated point person for coordinating arts and culture in the city. Make sure this person is housed in X department so they can unlock access to city facilities.
