Gravel isn't nature friendly, pedestrian friendly, or bike friendly.
This seems inconsistent with the look at 5 corners. More in keeping with the Pearl Street corridor.
...and don't obscure them behind 7 story buildings.
The appeal of Stevens Park is that it is natural and untouched. It doesn't need to be a theme park. Tidy up the paths, add a few benches, leave it wild. Let nature take care of the stumps. It just needs better access.
Yes, please! Steven's Park presents a much wiser investment of taxpayer money than the proposed "pocket park" at 5 corners. Please consider the existing memorial "park" that no one uses because it is noisy and dangerous at 5 corners.
These are much needed and the crosswalk lights are key.
Would like to see what this looks like because I don't see any "houses" in this development plan - just apartments.
Existing newer buildings have already made us Winooski's cousin. Building up isn't the only answer and are residents of the city interested in this, or is it just the developers? Existing mixed use buildings have commercial spaces vacant. Is there any focus in this plan on affordable housing?
Disagree on "tasteful" if this is an example. Please find an architect with some vision. The existing 5 corners corridor buildings are bland and unimaginative and completely at odds with the historic buildings that remain.
I hope we can imagine better options than food trucks.
Given the amount of space the Expo takes up, it should be more readily usable by the community. I recognize that it is a business, but it gives little back and represents a large portion of land that is not available for housing development, forcing the over-dependence on building up and destroying the character of the city instead.
The connector seems like the place to focus development of pedestrian friendly assets rather than confuddling traffic by closing roads.
And a variety of housing, focusing on affordability and fewer cookie-cutter, over-priced apartments in brick boxes.
Road diet?
Fun lighting? I hope this means safe and aesthetically pleasing lighting.
Challenges
The connector does not provide an alternative route to anyone traveling towards 5 corners from upper main that does not want to go South or West. Closing Main street necessitates a circuitous route through neighborhoods to get to Pearl St. While closing Main street might benefit developers who want to build up, it does not serve East side residents of the city who have to travel North, or those who live in existing neighborhoods that will see huge increases in travel on their streets. Also, I assume "road diet" means narrower lanes, but I don't see an explanation of the term anywhere in this document. For clarity, please define terms, or use more common, easily understood language.
I think this idea of added street connections could be great. In implementation would be good to understand how necessary this is for success and understanding of priority moving forward
Current access is available here. Would be good to improve! Would be ideal to add connection to Irioquois or Orchard terrace to allow this to be a ped (bike?) through connection
Suggestion
Please expand to include all proposed goals and related actions presented to align with roadmap and inform the activation of this work.
Looking forward to updated zoning recommendations throughout the districts!
Would be great to add more examples of taller buildings! Including ones being built in the 2020s/2010s min.
Will proposed recommendations for height in the zones be added here?
I personally think the building height setback not necessary, the comment I heard concerns in public meeting was about views from the ferris wheel, not along pearl street. Would rather see more related building heights in this zone and without the constraint on developers.
Would we still allow residential first floor uses? what about first floor parking? keeping LOW COST building styles for both residential and commercial is important (New Mcgillicudy's building is lovely aesthetically but with many vacant commercial space, all the small locally serving shops in older construction are great!
these diagrams are super usefule! Add how you would get from Main st to Lincoln street with closed slip lane - through railroad presumably
we discussed as a planning commission that this area might be better served by keeping turn lane to south street and losing parking, although if this area grows in development parking may be needed.
is this existing or proposed? In general sections are confusing - which are proposed vs. existing. Would be nice to have side by side comparison of existing vs. proposed to easily compare along with section of road highlighted in plan that it relates to

and bus stop accomodations?

action item: traffic analysis to evaluate road diets
show sidewalk widened and resurfaced as a shared use path
remove dimensions on other sections to make them more illustrative
in reply to JJArango's comment
Remove this section
Mention recent updates: Changes to allow for year-round operations of food trucks and trailers through consecutive temporary use permit renewals. Restrictions on the use of portable gasoline or diesel electric
generators were included [Section 703.J] CA, CE
Numbering
Bold or italicize
Remove strategy numbers - I think they're confusing

Add map of extents?

I think we're trying to argue that we don't close main street entirely in part so the bus can continue to use this route - is that accurate?
Maybe it would be helpful to include the turning movement diagram on this page to resolve this question

this is a great example!
Ensure wastewater capacity in the collection system and at the WWTF.
if off-street parking minimums are reduced, on-street parking may become more important. Currently, overnight on-street parking is prohibited throughout the winter regardless of weather.
Comment by MG: Perhaps this would be a good opportunity to list specific desired outcomes near/at CVE, such as pedestrian-level amenities, housing, etc

Include stormwater requirements in conceptual planning. Consider large scale municipal stormwater improvement project off-site to accommodate redevelopment projects.
